Hurricane Prep Checklist for Roofs and Gutters

Use this checklist before a hurricane watch or warning to reduce roof and gutter damage.

Roof and attic pre-check

• Inspect shingles, flashing, and ridge vents from the ground.
• Look in the attic for daylight, damp spots, or stains.

Gutter clean and secure

• Clear leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts.
• Tighten loose hangers and add downspout extensions.

Loose item tie-down

• Secure patio furniture, trash cans, and tools.
• Trim loose branches where safe.

Temporary cover readiness

• Stage tarps, 2×4 battens, screws, gloves, and safety gear.
• Know when to escalate to shrink wrap for larger damage.

Documentation

• Take photos of pre-storm condition.
• Store policy numbers and emergency contacts.
