Every StormWrappers emergency enclosure job follows the same three-phase process: assessment, stabilization, and shrinkwrapping. This structured approach is not procedural formality — each phase exists because skipping it creates problems downstream. Here is what each phase involves and why it matters for the quality of your emergency enclosure.
Phase 1: Assessment
Assessment is not just looking at the damage — it is gathering the specific information the installation requires. The crew identifies all areas of compromise (not just the obvious primary damage — secondary damage areas at edges, penetrations, and adjacent roofing are mapped); evaluates structural integrity of the areas where the enclosure will be anchored; identifies access requirements (ladder, scaffold, or lift); maps all roof penetrations that require individual detailing; and determines the film dimensions and strapping pattern the specific exposure requires. Assessment typically takes 15–30 minutes on residential jobs. Commercial and large-loss assessments are longer. This phase is not billable time the crew is trying to minimize — it is information-gathering that directly determines installation quality.
Phase 2: Stabilization
Stabilization addresses conditions that would compromise the installation or create safety risks. Loose roofing materials are secured or removed — a shingle that shifts after the enclosure is installed creates a stress point that can open a seam. Unstable sections of roof deck or framing are braced. Work surfaces are cleared of debris so crew members can move safely. This phase protects both the installation quality and the crew. A shrink wrap enclosure installed over an unstabilized substrate will experience movement that degrades the installation faster than the warranty period it is designed for.
Phase 3: Shrinkwrapping
The installation sequence: film is cut to specific dimensions for the exposure area; perimeter anchoring and strapping is installed; film is positioned over the exposure; all seams are heat-welded with propane torches to create continuous, gap-free connections; each roof penetration is individually detailed with film cuts, overlaps, and welded seals; and the entire assembly is heat-shrunk to a drum-tight finish. The heat-shrinking step is what distinguishes professional installation from a tarp placement — the film contracts and conforms to the roof geometry under controlled heat application, eliminating sag, pooling surfaces, and loose edges that create failure points.
Quality check and warranty activation
After installation, the crew walks every seam, penetration detail, and anchor point before leaving the site. Anything that does not meet quality standard is reworked on the spot. Installation photos are taken for the customer’s insurance documentation package. The 6-month warranty activates from the installation completion date. The customer receives a dated invoice with scope of work — the documentation that insurance adjusters need to see that professional mitigation was performed.
